Differences between shapes and forms make our art interesting…not just tolook at, but also to create. If, however, things are so different that they do not relate, thenthis principle no longer works. This degree is something that is learned over time. For example, if we want to show the gigantic size of the Empire State building, it would probably not be a good comparison to put a ladybug on the sidewalk next to it as an example of something really small. These two objects are so different that they do not relate. They are in two different worlds. A better comparison to show the size of the building would be a double decker bus. The bus is very, very small in comparison, but, at least it’s in the same world. Again, this discernment of the relativity of differences is learned over time.
