It doesn’t matter at all what kind of marks you make. They could be soft and fuzzy, hard and straight, realistic or abstract, colorful or dull…they can be any way you want them. If the marks can be seen, then we can make some judgment about how they appear in relation to each other. For example, if a shape is dark, a light one might look good beside it, or if the mark looks like something (realistic) then possibly an abstract mark might enhance it.
